🎭 River Tech Performing Arts Auditions Frozen & The Sound of Music

Dear performing arts students,

Here are the instructions for your audition for this year’s musicals: Frozen and The Sound of Music. Please read carefully and come prepared!

 

🗓 Alternate Audition Options:
If you have a prior event that’s truly impossible to cancel, there will be a second opportunity to
audition on Friday, June 13th at 10:00 AM.
If you can’t attend either date, you may submit a video audition by Sunday, June 15th to
learn@rivertech.me.
📹 Your video must include:
✅ Singing
✅ Dancing
✅ Acting (at least one scene)
Just like the live audition.

 

⏰ Time & Lunch
Auditions on Monday, June 9th run from 9:30 AM to 2:15 PM.
⏳ The time may vary slightly depending on attendance.
🥪 Please bring a lunch and water bottle.

 

🎭 About the Musicals
Both musicals will feature two performances and two sets of main roles (e.g., two Elsas, two Marias).

Main Roles – Lead characters with solos or major scenes
Supporting Roles – Speaking parts with smaller moments or songs (e.g., Greta, Torvald, Halvor, Host, Baroness Schraeder)
Ensemble – Choir, dancers, and characters like villagers, guards, castle guests, Northuldra, nuns, and party guests

✨ Each set of main roles performs once and joins the ensemble in the other performance.
All students are part of both shows—and the show wouldn’t be the same without you.

 

🧭 Who Should Audition?
These auditions are only for students interested in a main or supporting role in Frozen and/or The Sound of Music.

• If you plan to be ensemble only, you should not audition.

• However, you are welcome to attend for fun if you want the full experience!

Everyone, whether acting, singing, dancing, or just one or two of those, should fill out this form:

Please fill it out even if you’re unsure about your role—it helps us plan effectively.

 

⏳ Late Enrollment
Students enrolling after June 9th will not be eligible for a main role, as those will be cast based on auditions. However, you can still join the ensemble, and may also be considered for:

• 🌟 Participate in the ensemble (singing, dancing, acting)

• 🌟 Possibly be assigned a featured solo, duet, or dance if their talent stands out in the fall

• 🌟 Be featured in our third show, the Fun in the Sun summer concert, which we rehearse throughout the year starting in September

Being in the ensemble is meaningful, fun, and essential to the show’s success.

 

📋 What You Must Prepare
All students auditioning for a main role must perform all three components: singing, dancing, and acting. No skipping—your audition will be incomplete otherwise.

 

🎼 Singing
Choose one or more songs—even if your character doesn’t sing a solo. We want to hear your voice and expression!

Everyone will learn the same short choreography to Olaf’s “In Summer.”

🎭 Acting
Choose one or more of the following audition scenes. Scene 3 is only for callbacks after lunch.

 

🎬 Scene 1 – Playful (Anna, Kristoff, Olaf)

ANNA (confused but excited):
Oh! Who are you? And... what is that reindeer doing?

KRISTOFF (flatly):
That reindeer is Sven. And I’m Kristoff.
(beat)
You’re not from around here, are you?

OLAF (grinning):
Hi, I’m Olaf! And I like warm hugs!
(leans in, whispering)
Also, I may be lost. But I’m having a great time.

ANNA (smiling):
You’re a talking snowman. That’s... actually kind of adorable.
I’m Anna. And I’m trying to find my sister.

KRISTOFF (dryly):
The queen who froze everything? That’s your sister?
That explains a lot.

OLAF (cheerfully):
Do you want help? I’m very helpful. I can hold things.
...Mostly carrots.

 

🎬 Scene 2 – Serious (Elsa, Yelana, Aira)

AIRA (hushed, almost reverent):
There it is again... the voice in the wind. You hear it again, don’t you?

ELSA (unsteady, grappling):
I hear it. Every time I try to rest, it’s there.
Like it knows me—like it’s waiting.

YELANA (gently, with gravity):
There are truths buried in the water and the wind.
They don’t call to trouble you, but to reveal what’s been forgotten.

AIRA (hopeful):
Maybe it’s not a warning. Maybe it’s a welcome.
What if it’s not telling you to run—but to come home?

ELSA (shaken, but growing stronger):
And what if I go, and I lose control again?
What if knowing the truth breaks me?

YELANA (soft, firm):
Then let it break what must break—so what is true in you can remain.

 

🎬 Scene 3 – Callback Only (Maria, Captain)

CAPTAIN:
What is the meaning of this? Marching through the villa in curtain fabric?

MARIA (holding ground):
They were just clothes. What mattered was how freely they moved. They were being... children.

CAPTAIN (coldly):
They know better than to make noise indoors.

MARIA:
But they’ve been quiet for too long.

(The Captain turns to leave, but hears the children singing.)

CAPTAIN (quiet, struck):
That song... I haven’t heard their voices in years.

MARIA (softly):
But you could. Every day. If you wanted.

CAPTAIN:
I forgot what home felt like.

 

🕓 Audition Schedule

Morning Session

9:30 – Welcome, intro, and name tags
9:40 – Dance rounds 1–4
10:00 – Water break
10:10–10:55 – Song auditions (5 rounds)
11:00 – Water break
11:10–11:45 – Acting scenes 1 & 2
11:45–12:45 – Lunch & recess

🔄 If you feel very confident you won’t be cast in a main role and wish to leave after the morning session, you may. But be aware—it’s possible a director sees something in you that you don’t yet see in yourself.

Afternoon Callbacks

12:45 – Gather in one room. Director announces callback list.
Students continuing will go to a second room.
Those not continuing will work with our dance instructor on a new choreography.

Track 1 – Ensemble Focus
12:50–1:30 – Learn a dance together, then go home 🎉

Track 2 – Callback Auditions
12:50–1:00 – Callback dance
1:00–1:25 – Callback singing
1:25 – Water break
1:30–1:50 – Acting scenes 1, 2, and 3 (Sound of Music)
1:55 – Water break
2:00–2:15 – Teach and sing a song with harmonies
2:15 – Dismissed 🎉
