Our journey into robotics begins with the Vex Robotics curriculum, a hands-on learning experience that introduces students to the essential components of robotics. Students delve into the workings of pins, standoffs, shafts, gears, and more, learning how each part contributes to the functionality of a robot. Through building projects like robotic arms, cars, and even Ferris wheels, they gain a comprehensive understanding of mechanical design and construction.

Coding and Programming: Bringing Creations to Life

The adventure continues as students learn to breathe life into their creations through coding. By programming their vehicles and robots, they witness firsthand the power of code in controlling and manipulating their mechanical constructs, reinforcing the critical relationship between software and hardware in robotics.

Competition and Application: Vex Go Challenges

As students master building and programming, they advance to the Vex Go Competition Kits, engaging in themed challenges that mirror real-life scenarios:

  • Ocean Science Exploration: Tackling tasks that simulate underwater missions and marine research.

  • City Technology Rebuild: Imagining solutions for urban renewal and infrastructure challenges.

  • Village Engineering Construction: Designing projects that address the needs of rural communities.

  • Mars Math Expedition: Solving problems that astronauts might face on a Mars mission.

With a solid foundation in Vex Robotics, students progress to exploring robotics with Arduino, a versatile and powerful platform known for its open-source nature and accessibility. It's an invaluable tool that teaches students not only how to build robots but also how to understand and design the electronic systems that control them, setting the stage for advanced studies and applications in robotics and engineering.
