Producing An Album

I may be able to help you record your own album. Or not. You see, producing an album is a huge project. However, if you are prepared to put in the time and effort, I may be able to help you.

Few Spots Open
Because producing an album is such a big project, I only agree to work with one or two students at a time. Limited spots may mean a wait list.
Since I only work with one or two students, I am quite picky as to whom I choose to work with. You will need to audition and present your album idea.

You should be at least 14 years old, a talented singer, and you should have been a private vocal student with Dan for a while (at least two months).

Time Consuming
It takes a long time to produce an album. Let me try to explain.
Imagine if a song has five instrument (drum, bass, guitar, keyboard, and something extra like flute, strings, or brass). Each instrument has to be recorded separately. Then we may need to record multiple vocals (lead and harmonies). Then the song must be mixed and mastered. That means a single song may take two months from start to finish. Twelve songs could mean twenty-four months (two years).

Of course, it could go faster, but I am just trying to prepare you for the fact that producing an album is a time consuming endeavor, so you need to be in it for the long haul.

Expensive
Each musician and vocalist we record must get paid, and so do I. Planning, recording, mixing, mastering, and potentially publishing (if you need help with that, too) all costs. I do not charge as much as other, but it still adds up.
To calculate a budget, look at the provided table. Vertically, you have the number of songs you want to produce. Horizontally, you have the number of instruments you want per song, on average. It is basically number of songs x number of instruments x $125.

If you need help publishing the finished product that is an extra expense. If you need help marketing the album (for example creating a website and/or running social media or advertisement) that all costs extra. (If you need help composing the songs, I suggest booking a composition-class)

Lead Vocalists & Musicians
I only work with lead vocalists; i.e. you are the lead vocalist that we will be recording.

I have a vast network of professional session musicians from all around the world that I work with. In other words, I will be recording the musicians; you do not need to provide them.
