Subject Overview
At River Tech each child learns at their own pace.
Each student enrolls in four "tracks":
(1) Core-track
(2) Technology-track
(3) Performing Arts-track and
(4) Life-track.
We also have P.E., field trips, etc.
A student begins at a certain level of competency and proceeds to the next level when he has mastered the level he is at. This competency based method replaces artificial "grades" and allows each student to learn at their own pace.
If a student excels at a subject, he can move faster, and if he finds a subject harder he can move slower. A child can be at different levels in different tracks.
Read a brief summary of our four tracks below. For additional details, and full curriculum, click 'view more' under the track you wish to learn more about.
Did you know that River Tech has an 10-1 student-teacher ratio? At River Tech you can choose between our five and four, and three-days programs.
PERFORMING ARTS-TRACK
River Tech is a School of Performing Arts. As such, we have a phenomenal arts program that includes recording, production, and performing.
Each student learns to play the drums, bass, ukulele, guitar, keyboard, band, vocals, choir, dance, acting, musical theater, concerts, etc.
LIFE-TRACK
Our Life-track encompasses everything else, such as science, social science, social & emotional skills, budgeting, time management, entrepreneurship, political science, etc.
Each semester, we will have a couple of these types of subjects. Next fall, I know one of the Life-subjects we be U.S. History.
P.E., FIELD-TRIPS, GAMES, & FUN
This isn't a track, but once a week, Wednesdays at 10:20am-1.10pm, we set aside three hours for good old fun. Fresh air, sports, field-trips, games, etc. This is intended to help build friendships, community, and health. We go on approximately ten field-trips per year.
